REGIONAL NOTES
ARVADA
Nominees sought for youth award
The board of the Metropolitan Mayors and Commissioners Youth Awards is seeking nominations from the community for youths and young adults 13 to 19 years old as of Dec. 31.
The awards honor youths who have overcome tremendous personal adversity. Established in 1986, the MMCYA recognizes young people from nine metro-area counties.
Communities recognize youths nominated from their own municipalities, and 20 nominees from each county are honored at a county ceremony. Four nominees from each county are honored at a metro banquet.
Nomination forms are available online at the city of Arvada website, www.arvada.org, or by calling the Jefferson County coordinator Maria VanderKolk, 720-898-7507. Applications are due Jan. 13.

ADAMS COUNTY
County recycles Christmas trees
It may not even be Christmas yet, but it’s not too early to start thinking about how to get rid of that holiday tree.
Adams County is holding its annual Christmas tree recycling program. People can drop trees off at two locations: the Adams County Fairgrounds on East 124th Avenue just west of U.S. 85, and the Southpark Shop at 7285 Birch St. in Commerce City. Trees will be accepted on weekdays between Tuesday and Jan. 6. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southpark site and sunrise to sundown at the fairgrounds. Be sure to remove all tinsel, ornaments, garlands, nails and tree stands. There is a limit of two trees per family.
