Website improved for easier use

An improved website has been launched by Jefferson County, with the goal of making it easier for employees and citizens to use.

County employees can more easily update the site’s information, and finding information will be simpler for citizens, county officials said.

The Web address – jeffco.us – remains the same, although users who previously bookmarked pages within the site will have to update their bookmarks.

“Skate the Lake” tickets on sale

Evergreen’s 10th annual “Skate the Lake” on New Year’s Eve will benefit the DriveSmart defensive-driving program.

Activities include skating on Evergreen Lake, with 55-gallon drums filled with blazing firewood for warming hands and toasting marshmallows; food vendors; and fireworks at 9 p.m.

Only 2,500 tickets are sold before the event and are available at Bicycle Outfitters in Bergen Park, Paragon Sports in Evergreen, Buster’s in Conifer and Aspen Perk Cafe in Conifer.

Cost is $15 a person, with children 8 and younger admitted free.

The ticket provides entrance to the Lake House and unlimited ice skating from 6 p.m. to midnight. Because skate rentals are limited, organizers suggest bringing skates.

Open space’s winter program set

A winter program that includes guided programs at night and snowshoe hikes is being offered by the Jefferson County Open Space Department.

The schedule is available from the Lookout Mountain Nature Center, 910 Colorow Road, or residents can visit the website, jeffco.us/open space/index.htm.

The Open Space Department also is taking applications for volunteer naturalists.
