Paulo Colaiacovo, goaltender for the Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League, was named December’s goaltender of the month Thursday. It was Colaiacovo’s first such award. He finished with an 8-1-1 record in December, including a 1-0 shutout victory over the Youngstown SteelHounds on Dec. 16.
DU men’s lacrosse ranked 22nd
The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team was ranked No. 22 in Inside Lacrosse magazine’s preseason national poll. The Pioneers were picked to finish second in the Great Western Lacrosse League behind Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish were ranked 12th, while another GWLL team, Ohio State, was ranked 21st.
Wings goalkeeper fined for outburst
National Lacrosse League officials confirmed Philadelphia goalkeeper Matt Roik was fined an undisclosed amount for his actions at the end of the Wings’ 13-11 victory last Friday over the Colorado Mammoth. Previously, Roik was assessed penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct and obscene language.
