Michaella Gallina, a senior at Pueblo West High School, has a 4.0 grade-point average and is ranked No. 1 in her class of 230.

Michaella has been captain of the school volleyball team for two years and has played in the all-conference volleyball championships three times.

Michaella also has a black belt in karate and has won the Bendell International Sparring Competition.

As an equestrian, she competed in the World Paint Horse Show in Fort Worth, Texas.

Michaella is a two-time state qualifier as a sprinter. She was the track team captain last school year, and the Dec. 6, 2004, issue of Sports Illustrated named her one of five Wrangler Five Star Student Athletes of the Year.

She is president of the Colorado Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), which teaches high school students about marketing, entrepreneurship and general business practices.

She is also president of the school Crime Stoppers organization and, for two years, was president of Future Business Leaders of America.

She is editor in chief of the school newspaper.
