LenDale White, the former Colorado high school star running back who was instrumental in leading the University of Southern California close to three straight national championships, will speak about his future at a 2:30 p.m. news conference today in Denver.

Signs seem to point to the junior declaring himself eligible for the NFL draft, but his uncle, Herman White, said Tuesday night the decision will be made today. White’s NFL stock rose when he scored three touchdowns for USC last week in the national championship game against Texas. Holding the news conference in Denver might be another sign White will turn pro.

“There’s no guarantee,” Herman White said. “That’s why he hasn’t signed with an agent. He may return to school. He’ll come in with a decision (today).”

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound White set the Trojans’ touchdown record of 57 in three seasons.

“He has come to grips on some things, and it’s time to do something,” Herman White said.

LenDale White played at Denver’s South High School for two years, then transferred to Chatfield in Jefferson County. As a junior in 2001, he led the Chargers to a 14-0 season and the Class 5A state championship. A three- time All-Colorado selection by The Denver Post, White completed his career in 2002 with 7,803 yards, tops for big-school rushers, and the state’s all-time mark before Weld Central’s Kyle Bell surpassed him in 2003 with 8,248 in 2A.
