Q: Dear Scott,
Let me first say I love your column, all the way from sunny Florida…
I have been living in FL for about three years and I am moving back to good ol’ Denver in March. I can’t stop thinking about my ex guy – blah blah blah – you’ve heard it before.
While in FL I dated a great guy and we were planning on having a family, marriage, but he suddenly died. I think moving back to Denver is going to help me get over this most terrible event, plus I am sick of the memories here.
Back to my ex in Denver… why am I still thinking of him? Am I lonesome or bored or just stupid?
We had a crazy on-off relationship for almost 10 years, he has children with different women. I know I will see him. We gravitate towards each other, it is very peculiar.
Maybe he is married? Why do I care? Ughhhh. Besides all of this, I am very excited about coming home.
Best wishes,
– Beach Bum
SCOTT: You’re all over the board with your thoughts and emotions, aren’t you? I had to take a break halfway though your email to catch my breath.
It’s like all that Florida sun has gone to your head!
Let’s break this down: if you’re moving back to Denver, please don’t allow yourself to engage in a failed relationship from the past. Center yourself on something that stands a better chance of success, like your career and meeting someone new.
It makes absolutely no sense for you to backtrack in life and repeat previous failed experiences.
OK? You rock!
