The Home Builders Association of Metro Denver kicks off its 2006 Parade of Homes today in a ceremony featuring National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee and former Colorado Rapids star Marcelo Balboa.

Balboa will kick a soccer ball at 10 a.m. to signify the start of the 21st annual Parade at Reunion, the 2,500-acre master- planned community along E-470 in Commerce City.

Seven Denver homebuilders are participating in this year’s event: parade newcomers Colorado Business Associates and Rocky Mountain Custom Homes Inc., as well as Equity Custom Homes, Brookline Homes, Berkshire Homes, Wall Custom Homes and Pinnacle Peak Homes. The homes, all to be built on Reunion’s Buffalo Run Golf Course, will be priced from $1 million to $1.5 million.

“It’s a cocoon-to-butterfly event,” said Vicki Pelletier, vice president of operations for the homebuilders association. About 100,000 people are expected to attend the parade, which will be open to the public from July 29 to Sept. 4. Tickets will be $10 on weekdays, $12 on weekends.

Some proceeds support the Home Builders Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the homebuilders group. The foundation retrofits homes to make them accessible to the disabled.

Reunion, being developed by Shea Properties, will take 15 to 20 years to complete and will include more than 12,000 homes, 900 acres of commercial and retail development, 150 acres of parks, 10 miles of trails and 170 acres of open space.
