Minneapolis – Freshman Phil Kessel’s power-play goal in the third period lifted third-ranked Minnesota to a 3-2 victory over Colorado College on Saturday.
Kessel scored his 10th collegiate goal on the rebound of a shot by Chris Harrington as the Gophers (16-6-4, 11-5-2 WCHA) swept the weekend series.
Joey Crabb and Marty Sertich scored for the seventh-ranked Tigers (17-10-1, 9-8-1), who have lost four in a row – their longest losing streak in two years.
Crabb gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead when he flipped in a rebound of his own shot, but Minnesota’s Kris Chucko tied the game in the second period, and Harrington gave the Gophers a 2-1 lead with 0.9 seconds left in the period.
Sertich tied the game 7:21 into the third period before Kessel gave the Gophers their ninth win in the past 10 games.
