Marcilino Carbajal, 27, was sentenced today to 40 years in prison for beating his wife, Dometria Carbajal, to death.
Carbajal pleaded guilty to second-degree murder as part of a plea bargain. The deal stipulated he would receive 40 years in prison.
During the sentencing, prosecutor Kerri Lombardi described the case as a very violent, brutal and hateful crime.
Carbajal had been stalking his wife who was trying to end the marriage, which had been punctuated by domestic violence.
Three days prior to her body being found on June 6, 2004, she had called police who found Carbajal on the roof of her home. She was later killed in her home, by repeated blows to the head.
Her body was found by her family. The couple had a young son.
