“Rembrandt-Caravaggio” explores parallels of two Baroque artists at Van Gogh Museum

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt’s birth, the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam offer an exhibition at the Van Gogh exploring the confrontation between two geniuses of Baroque art who lived at different times: Rembrandt van Rijn and his Italian counterpart, Caravaggio. From Feb. 24 to June 18, the museums will show some of Caravaggio’s finest works not seen in the country since 1952, including more than 25 paintings from international museums, such as “The Supper at Emmaus” from London and “The Sacrifice of Isaac” from Florence. The paintings will be displayed in pairs next to Rembrandt’s similarly themed works. Van Gogh Museum, Paulus Potterstraat 7, +31 (0)20 570 52 00, vangoghmuseum.nl
