The Colorado Theatre Guild has announced its first citywide “Henry Awards.”
The awards, named after longtime theater producer Henry Lowenstein, will be presented at a June 16 gala honoring outstanding achievement by individuals and theaters for acting, directing and design elements in the 2005-06 season.
In advance of the ceremony at the New Denver Civic Theatre, the Guild has put out a call to aspiring artists to design the “Henry” award itself.
Lowenstein was the producer at the Bonfils Theatre from 1953 until its closing in 1986, at which time the building at East Colfax Avenue and Elizabeth street bore his name.
The Guild, a nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering and fostering live theater in Colorado, is encouraging artists and craftspeople to submit their ideas for an award design in either drawing or mockup form. The artist of the chosen design will receive $200.
The design criteria are: It must be free-standing; be able to be manufactured or reproduced for less than $50; and have space to fit a 1-by-3 inch engraving.
All entries become property of the CTG. The submission deadline is March 15. Call Dana Miller at 303-300-3547.
