Yale University has had 128 team captains in 133 seasons of football.
It’s 129th leader is Chandler Henley, a wide receiver formerly of Mullen High, for the 2006 season.
Despite missing 2005 with a broken collarbone, Henley, who also returns punts, was introduced as captain Saturday at the historic program’s annual banquet.
“The tradition here is unbelievable,” said Henley, who will be a senior next season. “To be involved in Yale football’s fraternity of captains, guys that have gone on to do such great things, is very flattering.”
* In recruiting, Gateway’s Greg Bolling, two-time All-Colorado football by The Denver Post, will sign Wednesday with Wyoming.
Bolling (6-feet-2, 180 pounds) played defensive back, quarterback and wide receiver for the Class 5A Olympians in Aurora.
The Cowboys, Gateway coach Jeff Sweet said, “were honest and in it from the start. They’re going to play him at split receiver. (Greg) feels good about this.”
Entering the weekend, 30 Coloradans were set to sign for Division I-A.
Other recent oral commitments: Bear Creek’s Kaleb Anderson, DE, (Colorado School of Mines); Roberto Cordero, LB, and Seth Rice, S (Mesa State); David Winterboer, OL (Adams State), and Riley Newcomer, RB, will try to walk on at Wyoming; Arvada West’s L.D.
