Aiming to “go out on top,” Adam Aron, head of Vail Resorts, has announced his resignation, effective five months from now.
In a press release this morning, Vail Resorts said that the June 28th date Aron was targeting would be his tenth anniversary as CEO and chairman.
Aron said he has identified new professional opportunities that he plans to pursue.
Aron will spend the next five months working with the board to select a successor and ensure a smooth transition. Aron would also consult for Vail beyond his resignation date, if the board requests.
The board is beginning an internal and external search for a new CEO and chairman.
In the press release Aron said, “I have immensely enjoyed every minute of what will ultimately be my ten-year tenure as Chairman and CEO of Vail Resorts. And I am grateful to the countless individuals who have been so kind to me along the way and so instrumental in Vail Resorts success.”
Aron said Vail Resorts is now four times the size it was when he arrived in 1996. He is proud of its success and confident in its future.
Aron also said he will complete a planned purchase of a new residence in Vail, with the expectation that he will continue to be connected to Vail and to Colorado for the rest of his life.
Board member Robert Katz praised Aron’s “impressive leadership and management of Vail Resorts.”
“He has brought a new level of sophistication to the mountain resort industry,” he said.
