Getting your player ready...

After all the zaniness fades from Buttermilk ski area this week, a new corral of athletes will storm the event-laden mountain. The 10th annual One From The Heart Charity Uphill race features 150 snowshoers racing up the mountain. The event, which has raised more than $35,000 in the past nine years for The Children’s Immunodeficiency Program of Denver and Challenge Aspen, involves racing up the 1,800-foot mountain on any sort of snow tool. A cadre of core snowshoers makes the race quite competitive, and the record time for ascending the hill is 26 minutes, 6 seconds. The event also has a noncompetitive trot for those who enjoy a more leisurely stroll up the hill. Stomp the powder beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Buttermilk ski area. Early registration is $30, and $35 the day of the race. All proceeds go to the charity.
