Republican gubernatorial candidate Marc Holtzman picked former House Speaker Lola Spradley to be his running mate today, saying she shares his ideals and philosophy.
Holtzman also promised that Spradley would share power if they are elected in November.
“This is a partnership. This is the Colorado version of the Bush-Cheney relationship,” he said in reference to the president and vice president.
Spradley said she would focus on issues she pushed as Colorado’s first female speaker of the House, including energy, agriculture, land conservation and economic development.
Spradley praised Holtzman’s experience under GOP Gov. Bill Owens, including his work as the state’s technology secretary and his work in higher education as former president of the University of Denver.
Rep. Bob Beauprez, who is expected to face Holtzman in the August primary, has not yet named his running mate.
Democrats in the race include former Denver prosecutor Bill Ritter and state Rep. Gary Lindstrom.
