Steele Street State Bank recently opened a branch off the 16th Street Mall on California Street after spending five months operating in the basement of the former Werners Mile High Camera location.

The branch is the first for Steele Street, started in 2003 by longtime Denver banking veteran Bob Malone and six backers on a namesake street in Cherry Creek.

“If you are going to have a legitimate presence in Denver and the Front Range, you have to have a downtown location,” said Brian Wilkinson, president of the branch.

The full-service branch targets lawyers, accountants and other professionals.
