Today, U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar threw his support behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter, calling him a “servant-leader” who has the character to lead the state into the future.
He also vowed to help Ritter win in November.
“I will do whatever I can to work hand and hand with him to make sure he is elected governor,” said Salazar, flanked by Ritter and his running mate Barbara O’Brien on the steps of the state Capitol.
Salazar also said that the state Democratic Party should not elevate the issue of abortion rights above all others.
“We need to move beyond the polarization of the issues of abortion,” he said. “I will fight against anybody, including those in my own party, who say abortion should be a litmus test.”
Ritter has come under fire by some in the party because he is against abortion rights.
