Paris – United Airlines flight attendants in Paris have threatened to strike, saying the company’s plans to close their base May 1 could leave them out of work and ineligible for French unemployment benefits.
The union’s local council, which represents 258 attendants, adopted a resolution calling on leaders to prepare for a strike, the Association of Flight Attendants said Tuesday.
United spokeswoman Jean Medina said a strike would be illegal because attendants in Paris are covered by the same contract as U.S. workers, who can strike only after a negotiation process mandated by U.S. law.
