The Colorado Rapids added former Smoky Hill High School standout Aaron King to their roster after a Wednesday trade with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Rapids gave up a first-round pick in the 2007 supplemental draft for King, a forward who was the final player chosen in last month’s Major League Soccer draft.
King, a fourth-round pick and 48th overall, was North Carolina State’s leading scorer in each of the past four seasons and finished fourth on the school’s all-time list with 44 goals and seventh with 103 points.
The Rapids announced their 2006 regular-season schedule, including an April 2 opening-day trip to Texas to take on the Houston 1836, an expansion team. The Rapids open at home April 8 against the Columbus Crew at 7 p.m. at Invesco Field at Mile High.
