A sex offender already convicted of two sexual assaults was linked to a third through DNA evidence, Denver police said today.

Wayne Douglas Glasser, 39, of Lakewood is now accused of kidnapping a woman at gunpoint in the fall of 1996 and sexually assaulting her in a van. The incident occurred in west Denver as the victim was walking home.

Detectives assigned to the department’s Cold Case Project say they cracked the decade-old case after matching Glasser’s DNA to the perpetrator.

Glasser was a painter convicted of sexually assaulting a disabled woman and a 14-year-old girl in June 1997 after offering them rides in his truck.

Glasser was sentenced to 25 years probation with intensive supervision for the two attacks instead of state prison time. But Glasser violated the terms of his probation by picking up a prostitute and was sent to state prison, according to news reports.

Glasser is not expected to be released for the probation violation until 2012.

However, he could be spending more time in prison because of the DNA hit made by Denver police.

The detectives issued a warrant for Glasser on charges of sexual assault and kidnapping with bail set at $75,000.

In July 2004, Glasser and his wife gained notoriety when they moved to Castle Rock and the home they were living in was damaged in an arson fire.

News reports at the time said Glasser blamed nearby residents because they did not want him living in their neighborhood, but fire officials said they suspected Glasser set the fire.
