Q: Dear Scott,

I just read your article for the first time. Maybe you can give me your perspective on this dilemma that I am having.

I just recently went to Alabama to visit one of my best friends; I was out there for an entire week and enjoyed every minute of it. I have lived here in Littleton for my entire life (27 years) and have never ventured outside of a 10-mile radius.

I have been thinking long and hard about moving to Alabama to start over. I love it there and can actually see myself living there.

I feel if I don’t go I will never know what it is like to do something like this. But I am scared of making a mistake. I don’t have any kids and no husband, but my entire family is here in CO.

What do you think that I should do?

Thanks for your insight.

SCOTT: I couldn’t bear to receive an e-mail from you in 25 years saying I gave you bad advice if I told you to stay put for your family. Things fall into place in life for a reason, most of the time anyway, and how lucky are you – you’ve got nothing holding you back!

Go visit the Yellowhammer State another couple times and check out the job market, research the cost of living, etc., and if everything looks good and you get a job, why not give it a try?

You never know, and might regret it (and torment me) if you don’t pursue this.

If things don’t work out, don’t fret. We’ll welcome you back with open arms.
