A year after Clint Barmes’ injury helped undermine their season, the Rockies continued adding middle-infield depth, signing Jesse Garcia to a minor-league deal. Garcia has accrued two years of big-league service time, playing most recently with the San Diego Padres last season.

Garcia will make $8,000 a month in the minor leagues. The Rockies acquired Jamey Carroll last weekend. He is expected to make the team in the utility role over Omar Quintanilla and Josh Wilson. Colorado also agreed to contracts with zero- to two-year service time pitchers Mike Esposito ($328,000 majors, $54,500 minors) and Eduardo Sierra ($327,000, $54,500).

Avs’ Boughner part of OHL ownership

Avs defenseman Bob Boughner has teamed up with former Avs left wing Warren Rychel and another businessman to buy the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. The sale was announced on the team’s website. Boughner and Rychel are from the Windsor area.

Mammoth’s Prout, Jalbert all-star starters

Colorado Mammoth forward Gavin Prout and defender Jay Jalbert were named Monday as starters for the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game by a vote of fans, media and general managers. Both players are all-stars for the third consecutive season, but this is the first time Jalbert was chosen as a starter. Prout also was a starter in 2004.

The game will be played Feb. 25 at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and televised on Altitude. All-star reserves will be named today.

Air Force gets OT hockey win in New York

Air Force’s Brian Reese scored an overtime goal with 3:09 remaining in the extra period to give the Falcons’ hockey team a 3-2 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology in a nonconference game at Frank Ritter Arena in Rochester, N.Y. Air Force (7-17-1) improved to 2-1 on its trip to western New York.
