A year after Clint Barmes’ injury helped undermine their season, the Rockies continued adding middle-infield depth, signing Jesse Garcia to a minor-league deal. Garcia has accrued two years of big-league service time, playing most recently with the San Diego Padres last season.

Garcia will make $8,000 a month in the minor leagues. The Rockies acquired Jamey Carroll last weekend. He is expected to make the team in the utility role over Omar Quintanilla and Josh Wilson. Colorado also agreed to contracts with zero- to two-year service time pitchers Mike Esposito ($328,000 majors, $54,500 minors) and Eduardo Sierra ($327,000, $54,500).
