“David Smith: A Centennial” sketches, 120 sculptures from artist’s, private collections
Any Top 5 list of the greatest American sculptors of all time has to include David Smith (1906-1965). He took the welded-steel constructions of Pablo Picasso and Julio González and pushed them in a new and utterly American direction. “David Smith: A Centennial,” a massive new exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum includes more than 120 sculptures from 1932 through 1965 as well as a selection of drawings and sketchbooks. The works have been drawn from the Smith estate as well as nearly 60 private and public collections.

FOCUS: Adam Fuss Exhibit celebrates artist’s early fascination with world of nature
British artist Adam Fuss spent much of his early childhood exploring the outdoors, and it is this world his images of water droplets, butterfly chrysalises and children depict in “FOCUS: Adam Fuss,” an exhibit that runs March 5-
April 23 at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. The water droplet images are photograms, a cameraless process in which light and chemicals produce a unique image on photosensitive materials, while the pictures of
children are gelatin silver prints and the chrysalises are pigment prints. Admission is
$8 for adults; children under 12 are free.
