A historic home with ties to Colorado’s Rooney ranching family is on the market for the first time since the 1950s. It’s listed for $900,000.

The Rooneys have operated a historic ranch in Jefferson County for six generations (one of the final parcels of the ranch is in the process of being sold in an unrelated deal). The family purchased the site of the Denver home in 1859 so their children could attend school in the city. But they never built on the land.

A home eventually was built in 1931, and its most recent owners, Chauncey and Yolanda Hager, bought it for $23,000 in 1952, said their daughter Jane Williams of Highlands Ranch.

The Hagers, a doctor and a musician, raised six children and housed several immigrants and refugees in the home over the years.

Listing agent Jennifer Collins and Sonja Leonard Leonard of real estate brokerage Leonard Leonard & Associates will host an open house and formal tea from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the house, at 3811 E. 26th Ave.
