For years, Erie languished under the image of an unpolished little town with dirt streets that were pretty much impassable in winter. Lately, though, it’s beginning to feel like the historic coal-mining town was merely a diamond in the rough. The streets are paved, the central downtown district is filling up with funky shops and restaurants, and the city is doing its best to lure people to town with events like the Hot Air Balloon Festival and Town Fair on May 20 and a summer concert series that kicks off July 15 with the Hazel Miller Band. What are we looking forward to? Biscuit Day, Sept. 16.
