Public presentations on protecting more than 4 million acres of National Forest lands in Colorado will continue with a 12:45-6 p.m. meeting Friday of the Colorado Roadless Areas Review Task Force at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, 1550 Court Place, in downtown Denver.
Appointed by Gov. Bill Owens, the body is charged with gauging public opinion to determine whether a preservation order by former President Bill Clinton in the form of the 2001 Roadless Rule remains in place or whether these lands are opened to development.
Early comment favors maintaining these areas free of development by a margin of more than 80 percent, mostly from outdoor enthusiasts who realize their value as wildlife habitat and as a hedge against further erosion damaging to fish.
