Getting your player ready...

Indianapolis – Safe from the harebrained ideas of former Colorado football coach Gary Barnett, perhaps Brian Calhoun can find his way home again.

Calhoun, a former Colorado running back who transferred to Wisconsin and became a star, met with a representative of the Broncos this week as part of the NFL scouting combine.

“One thing we have in common is we both use the zone (blocking) scheme in the run game,” Calhoun said. “They have a great running system and their guys are a lot like Wisconsin guys. I don’t know how serious they are about getting a running back, but I definitely think that would be a great situation.”

The Broncos, who hope to re-sign another former Badgers running back, Ron Dayne, are expected to select a tailback within the first six rounds of the April 29-30 draft. Calhoun, 5-feet-9 and 202 pounds, is projected as a second-round pick.

He played at CU until Barnett proposed moving him to wide receiver for his junior season. He transferred to Wisconsin, where he averaged 125.8 yards rushing a game in the 2005 season before coming out early for the draft.

“I’m still puzzled to this day,” Calhoun said when asked about the proposed switch.
