West Metro Fire ponders tax hike
The West Metro Fire Protection District board will decide Tuesday whether to ask voters in May for a property-tax increase and permission to issue bonds. The special meeting was called for during a session Tuesday night.
The district, which serves residents in Lakewood, Morrison and parts of unincorporated Jefferson County, has identified $43 million in capital projects, such as replacing four old fire stations and building a new training facility.
In addition, the board is considering a 1-mill increase in property taxes to pay for operations, including hiring more firefighters, replacing old equipment and maintaining service levels.
Doll fest shares Japanese culture
Simpson United Methodist Church is hosting its 38th annual Japanese Doll Festival on March 4 and 5.
Simpson serves English- and Japanese-speaking congregations. The doll festival and other events are a way to share the culture of Japan with church members and visitors.

Japanese arts and crafts will be on sale at the festival along with box lunches while they last. Japanese dance, music and martial arts demonstrations also will be featured.
The doll festival runs from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The church is at 6001 Wolff St. For more information, call 303-428-7963 or go to the church website, www.simpsonumc.com.
