ART THROW-DOWN

Art-O-Mart

560 Santa Fe Drive, Denver

303-623-3460

Thousands show up for the First Friday art gallery events on Santa Fe Drive each month. Starting this week, they’ll find something different: Art-O-Mart, a 3,000- square-foot show place for emerging artists, sponsored by Capsule Gallery. At Art-O-Mart any artist can display work, even if they aren’t shown in a professional space. For creative types it means no gallery-owning gatekeepers, no professional critics. For art lovers, it means a chance to discover something new. Official hours are 6-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.

THE HOLE THING

Daylight Donuts

305 N. Main St., Breckenridge

970-453-2548

You might have to wait a few minutes longer for your steaming-hot apple fritter, but it’s totally worth it. Made on-site, Daylight’s warm, soul-satisfying doughnuts are a local favorite, so arrive early for the freshest batch. Also on the menu? Tasty, portable breakfast burritos and lots of local gossip. Great deal: One dozen doughnut holes for 95 cents. Just eat them before you hit the slopes; wiping out with a pocketful of doughnut holes will leave your parka sticky for months.
