Colorado College men’s basketball coach Mike McCubbin, who held the third-longest tenure in the program’s history, resigned Monday, CC director of athletics Julie Soriero said.

McCubbin posted a 60-134 record to rank fourth in career victories at CC. He finished his eighth season Saturday with a 71-68 overtime loss to Cal-Santa Cruz in the Division III Independents West Coast Tournament. In 2004, McCubbin’s team went 15-10 and earned the program’s second NCAA Division III Tournament bid.

Fazekas notches WAC plaudit

Nevada forward Nick Fazekas, who averaged 24.5 points and 15.5 rebounds in two road wins last week, was named the Western Athletic Conference’s player of the week for the third time this season.

Fazekas, a graduate of Arvada’s Ralston Valley High School, had 26 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots in a victory at Idaho last Monday.

* The Mountain West Conference named Air Force senior Antoine Hood and Colorado State junior Michael Harrison its co-players of the week. It is the second such honor for both players.

Hammon joins U.S. national basketball team

Former Colorado State basketball standout Becky Hammon was added to the U.S. women’s national team before its three-game trip to Europe this week to take on top EuroLeague teams.

Hammon, of the WNBA’s New York Liberty and the Colorado Chill of the National Women’s Basketball League, joins former Connecticut teammates Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Diana Taurasi, among others, on the team.

The final 12-member U.S. team for the World Championship will be named this summer.
