Raytheon is laying off 130 employees in Aurora, the aerospace and defense-systems company said Monday.
The company’s Aurora-based Space Systems division has undergone at least two rounds of job cuts in less than four months.
The division cut 50 jobs in November.
The layoffs will drop Raytheon’s Aurora workforce to 2,450. The company employed 2,700 in Aurora last year.
Raytheon spokeswoman Darci Bushey attributed the latest layoffs to program restructuring by the government, one of the company’s major customers.
Raytheon’s local operations have hit a rough stretch recently.
Last month, Raytheon Space Systems failed to win a $2.1 billion contract with the Air Force that could have created as many as 300 jobs locally.
The Air Force awarded the 10-year contract to a Lockheed Martin team based in San Jose, Calif. Under the contract, Lockheed will help build a system to give soldiers high-speed, Internet-like data-transmission capabilities in war zones.
Raytheon is cutting jobs in a variety of positions, including administration and engineering, Bushey said.
On average, engineers in the metro area make $39.66 an hour, or about $82,500 annually, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Employees were notified of the cuts Monday.
Bushey declined to discuss the workers’ severance packages, saying only that they “are going to be taken care of.”
The Waltham, Mass.-based company posted $21.9 billion in revenue in 2005 and employs 80,000 people worldwide.
