Vail – Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld skied with a group of disabled Iraq war veterans and said they will be an inspiration to others.
“It’s like dropping a pebble in a pond,” he said Saturday after taking part in Vail Veterans Week.
“They have to be special people to do what they do regularly in their lives,” Rumsfeld said. “They are so ready to try things out and do something else.” He said the event helps tell the veterans how much they are appreciated.
“They take with them confidence and a real understanding about the fact that the American people appreciate them,” he said.
Later, he attended a dinner for the veterans hosted by the Vail Fire Department.
