Its product might have a politically incorrect name, but a company in the Netherlands is offering a great new alternative to the well-loved beanbag chair.

Designed in Finland in 1998, Fatboy chairs are made of nylon with a PVC coating that makes them resistant to water and stains. A rub with a damp cloth is all you need to keep them clean.

The original Fatboy is one huge rectangle – 55 inches by 70 inches.

All versions – including the Fatboy doggielounge that comes in two sizes – are filled with polystyrene beads that will conform to most any shape you want, and it keeps that shape until you change it.

To change shapes, you simply hold up the top two corners of the bag, lift it a couple of times, then pull the bottom corners out for feet. You can mush and mold the bag to fit your mood.

These colorful bags are versatile and would look at home in a dorm room, bedroom, family room or porch. They can be used as chairs, pillows, even as spare beds.

In addition to the original Fatboy and the doggielounges, there are two other styles – the Fatboy island, which is round, and the Fatboy point, which resembles a rounded cube.

There are 15 colors to choose from, including orange, lime, camouflage, silver, black and white. You can get a look at all the colors and shapes on the company website: fatboyusa.com. Locally, you can buy the chairs at Mod Livin’, 5327 E Colfax Ave. (720-941-9292) or find other dealers by e-mailing contacts on the website.

Prices for Fatboys begin at about $90 for the Fatboy point. The original costs about $230.

Each piece can be special-ordered so you get the exact color and shape you want. It usually takes five to seven business days for this cushy cushion to arrive at your home.
