Xcel to report on Feb. power outages
Xcel Energy is expected to issue a report Monday detailing the causes of power outages in Colorado during freezing weather on Feb. 18. The rolling outages left about 325,000 Xcel customers without power for periods of 30 minutes to several hours. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission will review the report and determine if regulatory action is needed.
Appellate rulings due in Broncos dispute
A federal appeals panel is weighing arguments in a long-simmering dispute between Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and former owner Edward Kaiser Jr.
Oral arguments before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals were Wednesday in Utah. A decision could come any time during the next few months.
Kaiser is appealing a lower court ruling that Bowlen acted properly when he sold shares of the team to family members without giving Kaiser first right of refusal. Bowlen is appealing a related ruling that he violated his contract with Kaiser when he offered former quarterback John Elway 10 percent of the team for $15 million.
’05 net earnings drop for Century Casinos
Colorado Springs-based Century Casinos said net earnings for its Womacks Casino in Cripple Creek dropped to $2.9 million in 2005 from $3.2 million in 2004. Century Casinos, which is building a hotel and casino in Central City, also owns a casino in South Africa and operates casinos aboard cruise ships. For the company as a whole, net earnings fell to $4.5 million from $4.7 million.
CH2M Hill lines up project for FEMA
Douglas County-based CH2M Hill has hired a retired Army Corp of Engineers officer to head a temporary housing initiative the company is performing for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Robert H. Griffin will lead the effort to provide housing for people displaced by Hurricane Katrina and Texas wildfires, the company said Friday. Griffin served as the U.S. Army deputy chief of engineers and deputy commanding general of the Corps of Engineers.
OraLabs in violation of Nasdaq rules
OraLabs Holding Corp., a Denver-based maker of oral- care products, is in violation of Nasdaq listing requirements after a member of its three-person independent audit committee resigned last month. To regain compliance, the company has until its next annual meeting to hire a replacement, according to a securities filing.
Isonics Corp. cuts debt nearly in half
Golden-based Isonics Corp., whose business lines focus on the homeland security and semiconductor markets, announced Friday that it has exchanged company stock at $1.45 a share for $9 million worth of convertible debt.
With the exchange and a payment of $1.9 million on March 1, Isonics has reduced its unsecured debt from $22.8 million to $11.9 million, according to a Friday securities filing.
Sentencing delayed for ex-Qwest CFO
Prosecutors asked a judge on Friday to delay until the end of the year the sentencing of former Qwest chief financial officer Robin Szeliga for her conviction on one charge of criminal insider trading.
Szeliga, who pleaded guilty last summer, was scheduled for sentencing April 27. Szeliga is cooperating with prosecutors in their insider-trading case against former chief executive Joe Nacchio.
Prosecutors said Szeliga’s attorneys had agreed to the sentencing delay.
