Eagles’ CHL playoff tickets on sale Sunday
The defending Central Hockey League champion Colorado Eagles announced Thursday that first-round playoff tickets will go on sale Sunday at 1 p.m at all Eagles ticket outlets, over the phone at 877.544.TIXX or online at www.comcasttix.com.
Wyoming wins, AFA loses in NCAA wrestling
Bryce Leonhardt of Wyoming won his round of 64 match at 125 pounds in the NCAA championships at Oklahoma City, a 3-2 decision over Coleman Scott of Oklahoma State. Wyoming’s Carter Downing posted a major decision (8-0) over Chris Renninger of Drexel in the round of 64 at 149 pounds. Downing then lost 6-0 to Eric Tannenbaum of Michigan.
In round of 32 action, Trent Paulson of Iowa State scored a major decision (12-3) over Wyoming’s Dan Clum in the 157-pound division. Wyoming’s Brian Bernal lost his 174-pound match, 8-4 to James Yonushonis of Penn State. Teammate Dusty Hoffschneider also lost, 8-4 to Cole Konrad of Minnesota in the 285-pound class.
Brandon Strong of Air Force lost in the round of 32 at 133 pounds. He was pinned by Matthew Valenti of Penn. AFA’s 141-pounder, Jacob Kriegbaum, lost to Joshua Churella of Michigan, 6-0. Ryan Bader of Arizona State pinned Air Force’s Brenden McLean at 197 pounds. In the same bracket, Wyoming’s Malcolm Havens lost an 8-2 decision to Casey Phelps of Boise State.
Colorado Springs’ Jones takes fifth in GS
Allison Jones of Colorado Springs posted the top American finish with a fifth in the women’s giant slalom at the 2006 Paralympics at Borgata, Italy. Hannah Pennington of Denver finished 19th. Clay Fox of Gillette, Wyo., finished eighth in the men’s giant slalom. Brad Washburn of Littleton was 15th, George Sansonetis of Fraser was 18th and Chris Canfield of Breckenridge was 31st.
