University of Colorado and Boulder County Public Health officials are investigating a rare case of meningococcal meningitis, and have treated seven other people with medication to avoid an outbreak.
A 19-year-old male sophomore at CU-Boulder was diagnosed Friday morning with the rare and potentially fatal disease. The student, who lives off campus, was in stable condition at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital on Friday, officials said.
State health authorities have been notified.
Friends of the student and other contacts were being sought.
The student, who was not identified, attended a house party in Boulder in the 1100 block of 10th Street on March 11, where CU students and nonstudents were present.
Students who think they may have attended that party are asked to call the Wardenburg Health Center hotline at 303-492-8741.
For general information about the disease, nonstudents should call Boulder County Public Health at 303-441-1460.
