The Colorado Rapids may have a new stadium under construction in Commerce City, but Westminster is still the pro soccer team’s hometown. The Rapids run their drills most weekday mornings at the soccer complex adjacent to Westminster’s City Park recreation centers, which look west over soccer and ballfields, the Big Dry Creek Trail and on to the Promenade entertainment complex for movies, skating, mini-golf and bowling.
Getting around: Westminster’s recreation heartland is anchored by the City Park Fitness and Recreation Centers, near West 104th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. Park at City Park and take a stroll southwest along the mostly paved Big Dry Creek Trail to the Sheridan Green Trail, which loops around the Ice Centre. Feeling lazy? The nearby Westin Hotel runs a free, golf-cart-tugged shuttle that stops at the arena and the Promenade.
