The Larimer County deputy coroner says an 8-year-old girl who died on Tuesday after an apparent bike accident had preexisting medical problems.
Investigator Greg Fairman said, in a statement, that Sasha Gunther, of Loveland, had heart surgery at 11 weeks of age. There was no indication of foul play or trauma in her death.
Gunther was found beside her bicycle in a grade school parking lot Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies were sent to Carrie Martin Elementary School at 4219 Joni Lane about 5:45 p.m. on a report of an injured bicyclist, according to Larimer County spokeswoman Eloise Campanella.
Gunther’s 12-year-old brother found her and called 911. Thompson Valley Ambulance paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the way to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, where the girl was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, Campanella said.
Campanella said it originally appeared that Gunther had run into a parked car.
An autopsy is being conducted today to determine the exact cause of death.
