Police arrested a carjacker who doused a man with gasoline after the victim jumped back in the back of his truck and called police on his cellular phone.
Joshua Jones, 24, was arrested after he jumped out of the truck as it was still moving and smashed into a garage, said said Trevor Materasso, spokesman for the Westminster police department.
The victim jumped out of the back and tried to stop the truck from running into the home but couldn’t, Materasso said.
“It was kind of unusual,” he said of the strong-arm robbery.
The victim was in the Tablesteak bar in Edgewater at 3:30 a.m. this morning when he climbed into his truck. At that moment, a man pushed him into the passenger seat and drove away, Materasso said.
The suspect later stopped the car and pulled the victim out of the truck’s cab, he said. The suspect had a water bottle filled with gasoline and doused the victim with the fuel, he said.
The suspect climbed back into the truck and drove off. The victim jumped into the bed of the truck and called police with his cellular phone as the suspect drove around town for about two hours. An officer in a squad car spotted the truck near 80th Avenue and Clay St. in Westminster, Materasso said. Jones ran but was later caught by police.
