Colorado State signed three state track and field standouts to national letters of intent Thursday.
Ryan Friese of Rampart High School finished sixth in the 400 meters and triple jump at the state championships last season. Tanesha Johnson of Eaglecrest ran the third leg for the state champion 400 relay team and finished fourth in the triple jump at the state meet. Leslie Peterson was runner-up in the 400 for Battle Mountain at last season’s state championships.
The CSU volleyball team also got a commitment Thursday, from Sydney Blancarte, a 6-foot middle blocker from Alamo, Calif.
Chadron (Neb.) State signed two Colorado and two Wyoming players for its women’s basketball team: Samantha Arkulari of Chatfield and Kellie Papachek of Roosevelt, and Wyoming’s Samantha Duncan (Sheridan College) and Alyssa Lyman (Campbell County High).
DU assistant Adams receives NCAA honor
University of Denver assistant lacrosse coach Jen Adams is one of 12 players named to the NCAA’s women’s lacrosse 25th anniversary team celebrating 25 years of women’s intercollegiate lacrosse.
Adams starred at Maryland and was named national player of the year three times during her playing career from 1998-2001. The Pioneers, riding a program-best 11-game winning streak, face No. 20 Stanford at Barton Stadium at 1 p.m. Saturday.
DU’s men’s team, ranked No. 18, also has a big weekend on tap. The Pioneers face conference rival No. 9 Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. today The Pioneers then play nonconference foe Bucknell at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The same two visitors are also playing Air Force. Bucknell plays the Falcons at 3 p.m. today, and Air Force hosts the Irish at 2 p.m. Sunday.
