The Tucson Sidewinders of the Pacific Coast League got a two-run double from Carlo Quentin in the first inning and rolled to a 6-2 victory Sunday over the host Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Security Service Field.

Eight batters in Tucson’s starting lineup had at least one hit in the 13-hit attack. Sky Sox starter Miguel Asencio (0-2) gave up three earned runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings as the teams split their four-game series.

The Sky Sox also added right-handed pitcher Scott Dohmann to their roster. Dohmann is on a major-league rehab assignment.

CU track team qualifies two for regionals

With sprinter Brandon Johnson and its men’s 400-meter relay team, the University of Colorado track and field team notched two regional qualifying marks at the 17th Angel Sun Classic, hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.

Johnson’s time of 52.47 in the 400 hurdles was a personal best. And the 400 relay team – with Lionel Lawson Jr., Chris Abuan, Samuel Napp and George Pincock – finished in 40.3 seconds, the second-fastest time in school history since 1971.

The women’s team was led by Amberly Casey, who took fifth in the triple jump (38 feet, 6 1/2 inches) and long jump (18-11 3/4).

Western Oregon baseball sweeps Metro State

Western Oregon completed a three-game sweep of Metro State, winning both ends of a doubleheader Sunday, 7-4 and 7-2 in Monmouth, Ore.

Western Oregon (25-13), winner of 14 of its past 16 games, was led by JT Eilertson’s complete-game four-hitter in the opener. In the second game, Metro State (17-18) got two first-inning runs, but Braden Ham (5-3) gave up three runs each in the second and sixth innings.

Mammoth playoff tickets on sale today

The Colorado Mammoth will begin the National Lacrosse League playoffs with a Western Division semifinal game against the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Pepsi Center.
