Athletic director at Fort Lewis leaving

Fort Lewis College athletic director Dave Preszler is leaving the school after 14 years as a coach and administrator. He has accepted a position as assistant principal and activities director at Bayfield High School.

During Preszler’s five years as AD at Fort Lewis, the Skyhawks’ men’s soccer team won the NCAA Division II championship, the football team finished with its first winning season in 21 years and the men’s and women’s basketball teams achieved five consecutive winning seasons.

Fort Lewis is searching for a successor.

UNC coaching staff adds ex-WNBA player

The Northern Colorado women’s basketball team selected former WNBA player Paige Sauer as its top assistant coach, new head coach Jaime White said.

Sauer spent three seasons as an assistant at Fairfield (Conn.). While a player at Connecticut, Sauer was a key part of the Huskies’ 2000 national title team. She played for the Los Angeles Sparks and Cleveland Rockers of the WNBA and also spent time in European pro leagues.

Mammoth’s Prout selected NLL all-pro

Colorado Mammoth forward Gavin Prout, 28, was named to the National Lacrosse League’s all-pro first team Wednesday. Teammate Jay Jalbert, 28, was named to the second team. Prout led Colorado with 29 goals and 64 assists for a career-high 93 points. Jalbert, a transition player, scored a career-best 48 points on 19 goals and 29 assists and ranked fourth in the NLL with 152 loose balls.

The Mammoth plays at Buffalo for the NLL’s Champion’s Cup on Saturday at 4 p.m. on ESPN2.
