Doug Wilson is the lightning rod behind the ever-popular reality TV home and design phenom.
The “celebrity designer,” who happens to be a studied actor, visits the Denver area Saturday to promote his line of contemporary lamps and “Doug’s Rooms,” a design book bulging with tips, color and pictures of Wilson, who hosts three TLC design programs, including “Trading Spaces.”
But there is a reason to peruse Wilson’s book even if you have fallen behind in dues to the “Trading Spaces” fan club. One is the satisfaction of learning that this DIY guru has long inhabited a 500-square- foot apartment. Another is learning that Wilson comes from a humble, all-American upbringing, which continues to influence his design ideas. And the third reason to thumb through “Doug’s Rooms” is its easy-to-digest design guidelines that cover such basic, helpful issues as furniture placement and managing clutter.
Wilson will sign copies of the book during his four-hour appearance beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Furniture Row Shopping Center in Lone Tree, 8375 Park Meadows Drive. Anyone who drops by also will have the chance to enter a raffle for a signed lamp from Wilson’s collection.
