Former Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe is now a member of the media.
Vandeweghe will be a pregame analyst on the “NBA TV Insiders” show tonight for Game 3 of a second-round series between the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns. He also is slated to work as an analyst for Game 4 in Los Angeles on Sunday and is being considered for future playoff games.
“It’s something I’ve done before,” said Vandeweghe, who once worked for KABC in Los Angeles. “It’s very enjoyable.”
Said NBA TV director of production Bryan Meyers: “Kiki has been a player and worked as a general manager in the NBA for a long time. He has a wealth of knowledge, and we wanted to get his insights on NBA TV.”
Camby defensive again
For the second consecutive year, Nuggets center Marcus Camby was named to the NBA’s all-defensive second team.
He led the NBA in blocked shots (3.29 per game) and also led the Nuggets in rebounding. Detroit center Ben Wallace, the NBA defensive player of the year, landed first-team center honors over Camby. Nuggets guard Ruben Patterson received a vote.
Hervelle stays in Spain
Agent Bill Duffy said it’s unlikely the Nuggets’ 2005 second-round pick Axel Hervelle will play for Denver next season or with the summer league team.
Unless the Nuggets quickly try to sign Hervelle, the 52nd overall pick of last year’s draft, Duffy plans to sign the Belgian native to a three-year contract extension, including “aggressive buyouts” after each season with his Spanish club Real Madrid. Mark Warkentien, the team’s director of player personnel who is acting as an interim GM, declined comment.
Nuggets work out four
In their first workouts before the June 28 draft, the Nuggets worked out Illinois guard Dee Brown, Iowa State guard Curtis Stinson, George Washington forward Mike Hall and Lamar forward Alan Daniels. Denver has the 49th overall pick in this year’s draft. Warkentien said the Nuggets are scouting players who could be drafted higher in case they move up in the draft.
Stinson, who averaged 19.4 points as a junior at Iowa State last season, has hired an agent, thus ending his college eligibility.
