A man in his 20s was stabbed to death by a man who confronted him for arguing with his girlfriend outside a 7-Eleven early this morning, police say.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.

The man was arguing with his girlfriend at about 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 2299 W. Alameda Ave., Jackson said.

It is unclear what the argument was about, but it was not a physical confrontation, he said. Several witnesses saw the couple.

A man walked up and started arguing with the man who was in his 20s, Jackson said. The two began fighting and the man who broke up the argument pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man.

The man with the knife ran away and has not been captured, Jackson said. Police do not have a named suspect, he said.

Authorities do not know whether the victim and the suspect knew each other, Jackson said.

Police did not release a description of the suspect.
