The Northern Colorado baseball team beat North Dakota State 6-1 on Sunday to win its second straight Division I Independent Invitational Tournament title in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Jeff Horn hit a three-run homer for the Bears, who were 4-0 at the tournament. North Dakota State was held to eight hits and one run by Northern Colorado starting pitcher Roy Allen.
UNC’s Brennan Garr was named the tournament’s most outstanding player for the second straight year after batting .471 with three home runs and eight RBIs. Allen, Seth Tartler, John Ray and Seth Gilleland were named to the all-tournament team.
Shorter to speak in Bolder Boulder series
Frank Shorter, the 1972 Olympic marathon winner, will share his experiences in running at the final 2006 Bolder Boulder speaker series on Tuesday at the Chautauqua Park Community House in Boulder. The event begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students and $1 for Bolder Boulder Training Club members and Chautauqua members.
