NFL power brokers are assembled in Denver today to address stray issues and continue to chip away at two major ones.
As a follow-up to the spring meetings in Orlando, Fla., in March, NFL owners are meeting in downtown Denver. The proceedings began Monday with some committee meetings.
No monumental decisions are expected to be made after a busy offseason, highlighted by a new collective bargaining agreement between the owners and players.
“Generally, this meeting will be to wrap up unfinished business,” said Joe Ellis, the Broncos’ executive vice president of business operations.
The meetings will be led by outgoing commissioner Paul Tagliabue, with the main topics being bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles and the search to replace Tagliabue, who is retiring. Tagliabue may stay in his post until the fall while a replacement is found.
Lions: Detroit released defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson and re-signed linebacker James Davis to a one-year contract.
Wilkinson, the No. 1 pick overall in the 1994 draft, spent the past three seasons in Detroit.
He has 455 tackles and 54 sacks in 185 career games, including 48 consecutive starts with the Lions.
Davis played in all 16 of Detroit’s games last season, and finished third on the team with 79 tackles and recovered a fumble.
Jets: Ben Graham, who punted 74 times for a gross average of 43.7 yards and a net average of 37.9 yards last season, signed a contract extension.
