Oprah Winfrey is writing a book about weight control, Simon & Schuster announced at last weekend’s Book Expo publishing convention in Washington, D.C. She’s collaborating with her longtime fitness trainer, Bob Greene, and the book is due for a January release. The New York Post reports Winfrey’s advance exceeds the $12 million Bill Clinton received for his 2004 memoir, “My Life.”

It may be a case of sour grapes, but former “ER” star Alex Kingston claims she didn’t get the Felicity Huffman part on “Desperate Housewives” because she was not skinny enough. Kingston told the London Evening Standard: “I didn’t get the part, and I know why: irrespective of acting ability, I’m just way too big. The women are all size 2 and go perfectly together. But to me, they didn’t look like desperate housewives but desperate glamour models.”

Rosie O’Donnell is joining “The View” in September, but she still is lobbing digs at her soon-to-be partner Star Jones Reynolds. According to the New York Daily News’ Lloyd Grove, at a recent cancer charity event supporting Gilda’s Club, O’Donnell told the glammed-up crowd: “It is black tie tonight, and I am wearing jeans, and I’d like to apologize. But frankly, I’m in the ones. OK, it’s 199 (pounds), but still it’s in the ones. I do a lot of Pilates.” The last reference was an obvious jab at Reynolds’ claim she lost half her body weight through Pilates and dieting, not surgery.

Prince has been voted the “world’s sexiest vegetarian” in People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ annual online poll. Prince, 47, shares the honor with Kristen Bell, the 25-year-old star of “Veronica Mars.” Runners-up in the poll, which PETA said received more than 40,000 votes, include Natalie Portman, Nicollette Sheridan and Joaquin Phoenix.
