Bersagel tops field in K.C. half marathon

Annie Bersagel, a graduate of Greeley Central, won the USA Women’s Half Marathon Championship on Saturday in her debut in the race at the Hospital Hill Run in Kansas City, Mo. Bersagel’s time of 1 hour, 14 minutes and 36 seconds topped Milwaukee’s Jenny Crain by nine seconds.

Alamosa’s Zoila Gomez, a former runner at Adams State, finished third at 1:15:30.

Mohamud Ige, 18, of Denver South finished eighth in the 1-mile run at the Music City Distance Carnival in Nashville, Tenn., and his time of 4:08.06 is the fastest time run by a Colorado high school boy. Drew Griffin, 23, of Palo Alto, Calif., won the 19-runner, open-age event with a time of 4:00.03. Ige’s previous personal best was 4:11.97.

Kent Denver girls lacrosse players honored

Kent Denver midfielder Danielle Kachulis and defender Molly Parker were named to the Under Armour All-America team. Kachulis is headed to NCAA quarterfinalist Duke, and Parker will attend NCAA runner-up Dartmouth. Ali Fury, a midfielder from Broadneck, Md., who will attend the University of Denver, also was named to the team.
